Advanced Diagnostics for Your Eyes

We examine the individual cell layers of your retina in detail and can
detect even the smallest changes often before you experience symptoms.
With our modern ultrawide imaging, you no longer need pupil-dilating drops – meaning no downtime, and you can even drive yourself to your appointment.

High-resolution optical coherence tomography (OCT) scan of the eye detecting the smallest changes in the retina.

In the high-resolution OCT scan, even the
smallest retinal changes become visible immediately.

IVOM for Macular Degeneration

The Most Effective Treatment for Wet Macular Degeneration

IVOM-bei-makuladegenerati-on

IVOM (intravitreal operative drug
administration) is used to
treat the wet form
of AMD. These medications inhibit the growth

of blood vessels
and reduce the accumulation of fluid in the retina. Here’s what
a typical IVOM procedure looks like:

Many eye diseases that could
potentially lead to blindness, such as glaucoma, can be detected before symptoms appear
thanks to state-of-the-art technology. An eye examination from the age of 40 is highly
recommended to identify early signs of serious eye conditions and provide timely treatment
before vision deterioration occurs.

Your eye will be numbed with eye drops to prevent any pain
during the procedure. The eye and the surrounding skin will be carefully disinfected to
minimize the risk of infection.

The doctor injects the medication into the vitreous body of
your eye using a fine needle. This step takes only a few seconds and is generally painless.

Immediately after the injection, your eye may feel slightly
irritated. It is normal to experience floating spots (so-called “floaters”) or mild
bleeding.

After the procedure, you should rest. Painkillers are
usually not necessary. You can remove the eye patch once you arrive home.

Frequently Asked Questions About
Macular Degeneration

IVOM is a procedure in which medication is injected directly into the eye to treat certain retinal
diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, and macular edema.

2. What is age-related macular degeneration (AMD)?

AMD is a retinal disease that affects central vision and occurs in two forms: dry and wet AMD. Wet
AMD can lead to rapid vision loss, while dry AMD progresses more slowly over time.

IVOM is used to administer anti-VEGF medications, which inhibit the growth of leaky blood vessels
in the eye, slowing down or stabilizing disease progression.

Most patients require multiple injections. The frequency depends on the individual response to the
therapy. Initially, injections are given monthly, but over time, the intervals may be extended.

The injection is performed under local anesthesia, making the procedure generally painless.
However, some patients may experience mild pressure in the eye.

Common side effects include temporary eye irritation, redness, and a slight foreign body
sensation. Serious complications, such as infections or retinal detachment, are rare.

Patients with wet AMD, diabetic macular edema, or other retinal diseases that respond to anti-VEGF
therapy are typically good candidates for IVOM.
